Author Mart Laar, one of the most prominent Prime Ministers of Estonia (1992-1994, 1999-2002), and later Minister of Defence (2011-2012), who is also a renowned historian and writer, has compiled this guide of the places related to Estonia’s independence. Over the last hundred years, the Republic of Estonia has left numerous traces of its legacy that even decades of foreign occupation have not been able to erase.
In 2018 Estonia was celebrating its 100th anniversary of independence. Mart Laar looks back on the road travelled and highlights 277 sites across Estonia, as well as 19 in Latvia and Finland, which have been relevant and meaningful in relation to Estonia’s independence.
